Most of the reflection was in video format, so below is the same content as the audio file with links to the videos.

Seven years ago this fall, Peter started a documenting process here at Milwaukee Mennonite. The goal was to interview as much of the congregation as possible about the church’s past, present, and future. Two parts of that three part process were finished before the pandemic shut down the project: the past and the present. Last week we revisited the past, before 2020. Today we look at who we were in early 2020, just before the pandemic. We take the time to reflect on our past in hopes to help us better consider where we are now, and what we hope for our future as a congregation.

We will now watch our video, a look at who we were in early 2020. As you watch, please have grace for yourself and others. Consider: How have we changed? How have you changed? How does this fit or not fit with your memory? If this isn’t your history or there are parts that aren’t your history, how does this window into our church family’s past help you better understand us? Recognize: This is a gift, a window into our past. Thank you for taking part in this.

Seven years ago this fall, Peter started a documenting process here at Milwaukee Mennonite. The goal was to interview as much of the congregation as possible about the church’s past, present, and future. Two parts of that three part process were finished before the pandemic shut down the project: the past and the present. We will be revisiting these two parts this Sunday and next as a way for us to reflect on our past in hopes to better consider where we are now and what we hope for our future as a congregation.

To help the congregation consider its past, Peter created this brief timeline in images both from the congregation and from broader society to give us context. Whether these images speak to your experience or others, they are worth witnessing and remembering.

We will now watch two videos. The first is a short look at the first iteration of Milwaukee Mennonite. Then, we’ll watch Peter’s video on what we thought of our past back in 2019.
