Children perform original play, Gathered 'Round the Table with Simon PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 15 November 2009 00:00

kidsplay6For the fall quarter the elementary kids studied some stories from the Old Testament. They learned about the Isrealite's exile from Jeruselum, Job and Ezekiel and the dry bones. An activity one week was to do a TV show and interview Job. As we were doing it, a lightbulb went off in the kid's and teacher's heads. We should do this for the rest of the church! So the idea was born. The kids had a great time helping to write the script and extend the guest list to include all the stories we studied. We called it Gathered 'Round the Table with Simon, since our curriculim is called Gathered 'Round. Simon was a perfect host for our talk show. His guests included, Job, Ezekiel, Dry Bones, two Isrealite children and God. The Youth provided the commercial breaks for our show. They had commercials for our church and Ezekiel's Dry Bones Lotion.

The audience enjoyed the show and it was a good review of our quarter. The kids loved planning and performing the show.

Fall 2009 Retreat PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 31 October 2009 00:00
On October 31, 2009 we enjoyed a fall retreat to the Clarke farm in Colgate, WI.  We dressed up in costumes, made apple cider, held a treasure hunt/trick-or-treat for the kids, carved pumpkins, fellowshipped, and shared a meal together. It was also a time to celebrate the gift that Cathy and Tim have been to us these past few years. We honored them with a chicken-themed party and sent good wishes with them as they start their next chapter in Ashland, WI.

On September 6 we gathered for church at Kohler-Andrae State Park about an hour north of Milwaukee right beside Lake Michigan.  During the worship service we had a time of reflecting on the past and thinking about the future through singing and praying.  The rest of the day was spent enjoying each other's company through a potluck, swimming, walking, playing volleyball, and slacklining.  We left refreshed and ready to launch into another church year together.

Joint Service with Martin Luther Lutheran Church PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 June 2009 21:35
On June 7 we joined our host congregation, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, for their annual outdoor worship service and picnic. Although the cold weather forced us to meet indoors, this provided a great opportunity for members of both congregations to get to know each other better--something our respective denominations have been working at in recent years through a process of dialogue.

Sister-Care Seminar PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 16 May 2009 00:00

On May 15 and 16 several women from our congregation participated in a Sister-Care seminar at Belmont Mennonite Church in Elkhart, Indiana. Sponsored by Mennonite Women USA, this particular seminar included over eighty participants from congregations in the Central District and Indiana-Michigan Conferences.

Sister-Care explores ways that women can hear each other, care for each other and nurture their life in Christ together in the church. It was good to be with other Mennonite women, and we certainly lowered the average age of the group!

On Saturday, May 9 our youth and a few of their friends had a fun night at the church that included many activities other than sleep! These included a craft, a scavenger hunt, group games that included ropes tied around roof beams, endless rounds of hide and seek, and capoeira. Many thanks to the adults who planned and led this event.

Sunday, 05 April 2009 00:00

On April 4 and 5, 2009, Milwaukee Mennonite Church participated in The Listening Project, an initiative intended to improve communication and deepen relationships between Associated Mennonite Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana, and the congregations of AMBS graduates. Loren Johns, Associate Professor of New Testament at AMBS, met with several groups from our church as well as the Milwaukee community, and reported on what he heard during a love feast on Sunday evening following worship.

Central District Conference Regional Meeting PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 March 2009 13:41

Five representatives of our church attended the Central District Conference Regional Meeting in Lombard, Illinois, on Saturday, March 7, 2009.

This meeting included worship, workshops, a hymnsing, and a wonderful lunch provided by the Asian Mennonite Community Church. In addition, an afternoon session was focused on learning about Milwaukee Mennonite Church!

We anticipate being welcomed as full members of the Central District Conference at the Annual Meeting this coming June, although we have already been warmly received by this diverse collection of Mennonite congregations. Signs of this at the regional meeting included being presented with a welcome basket of treats, and a "cup of blessing" that was filled with prayers and notes from several congregations. We look forward to sharing these words during our worship services over the coming weeks.

Winter Retreat PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 22 February 2009 00:00
On Sunday, February 22, we enjoyed a day-long winter retreat at the Clarke family farm in Colgate, Wisconsin. As can be seen in the pictures below, the weather was perfect for playing in the snow. We also enjoyed playing indoor games (including our first annual rock-paper-scissors championship!), eating, and worshiping together (not once, but twice in one day!).
