On Sunday, October 12, the church met at Agape Community Center for a "Faith in Action" day in place of our usual worship service. The center serves as a meeting place for this northwest neighborhood and provides numerous health, education, recreational, and social services as well. After gathering with a song and prayer in the multi-purpose space of the building, we were directed by the staff on hand to our jobs of cleaning chairs, washing shelves and carts, sorting recreation equipment, other cleaning and maintenance. The children also helped in the tasks, in addition to assembling 25 school kits for Mennonite Central Committee. The purpose of our work day was to serve the people in the Milwaukee community, being reminded that such work is a form of worship to God. We wanted to place ourselves in a new neighborhood and to work together toward a common goal. Following the work time, we ate a soup and bread meal together and shared about how such projects impact us and the community.
